It’s amazing, and indeed shocking, how the state of the world can change so rapidly. The two-year war in the Middle East came to an end some months ago, only for another to begin in recent weeks.
Isn’t it difficult to know who to trust in these situations? The regime of Iran, the ancient land of Persia, is a horrific regime indeed, and freedom for the people of Iran would be a great thing. But is this conflict justified? Is it within a Christian spirit to boast about the disfigurement of another human being?
Catholics, all Christians, and all people of good will can do several things at once. We can desire freedom for the people of Iran, while also not desiring violence. We can condemn the horrors committed by the regime of Iran, while also wanting our own leaders to show wisdom. We can fight our enemies and confront evil where it is, but also pray for the conversion of others.
Pray for Persia, and pray for the world.
